Original Cyn: The Second Coming

Image

Original Cyn was a wooden roller coaster of a show, held together with pure love and blind faith. It's the best thing I've ever done and it may be the best thing I ever do. I miss it a lot. And I think I'm not the only one.

In the years since it shut down a lot of people have asked me if/when it's coming back. I've always meant to bring it back in some way but I've never been sure how. How big a venue will we need? How can we pay everyone who works on the show what they're worth? How can we recapture the magic of the original? How can we make it better? How can we get everyone that drunk again?

I don't yet know how to answer those questions, but I want to gauge interest so we can start to answer those questions. So I have an actual, accurate, number, I'm using this mailing list. So if you want to see OC again, sign up here. I won't use your email for anything else, just to tell you when and where the show will be coming back.

If/when the show comes back, it'll definitely be sporadic and it'll probably be underground so this mailing list will be the only way to know when and where a show is happening. I'll repeat, for those skimming, THIS IS THE ONLY WAY YOU WILL DEFINITELY KNOW WHEN/WHERE THE SHOW IS HAPPENING.

So, for reals, sign up. Oh, and feel free to pass this link around. The more people, the bigger the party.

Epic Win Season 4

Epic Win has set out to make our 4th season our most ambitious season yet, including 3 monthly shows, 4 all new Main Stage shows, one big ass show/party/concert event, and an international Nerdlesque fest. That's 42 shows, because we're that fucking nerdy. So pack your towels, polish your mithril shirts and set your phasers to sexy because this will be our biggest year yet!

At R-Bar the first saturday of every month we're rotating three shows...

The New Nerd Review January, April, July, October There is a continuing explosion of geeks into the neo-burlesque scene and it is high time that those newer talents got a chance to shine and be introduced to nerds and burlyq fans the world over. Consequently, seasoned professionals are letting their geek-flags fly! The New Nerdlesque Review is a showcase of the best and brightest of the most recent crop of pop culture devotees. Come and hoot, holler and cheer for the newest and hottest nerds to hit the stage! And stay after the show for geeky go-go and nerdy pop music!

Wild Card Show February, May, August, November For the past three years Epic Win has been making nerdy dreams come true but some of our ideas are too weird or obscure or just plain dumb to build a whole show around. So now we have the Wild Card Show; a mix of beloved standards and off the wall new acts, with guest performers and surprise hosts and whatever other crazy shit we can come up with to keep it interesting. After the show Mary Cyn will keep the party going with costumed go-go and geeky dance music!

GeekBoys Burlesque: an All-Male Nerdy-Burly Review! March, June, September, December Come hoot, holler and cheer for the manliest nerds to hit the stage! These geek boys will be bringing a sexy selection of nerdy numbers to entertain and delight. Come for all the pop-culture references... stay for the scantily clad nerds.

On the second saturday of every month at the Nuyorican Poet's Cafe we'll be doing

Epic Win's Double Feature February 9th, March 9th, April 13, May 11th, June 8th, July 13th Two Different Themes... Two Separate Shows...One Crazy Night! Here you can see remounts of old favorites, as well as all new themes. Come to one or stay for both. Feburary Video Games and Comic Books March Batman and Harley Quinn AprilHarry Potter and Twilight Zone vs. Hitchcock MayGhostbusters and Teen Rebel Movies JuneStar Trek and Star Wars July Xena and Futurama And more to be announced!

On a quarterly basis we will be doing the Epic Win Mainstage Shows the kind of shows we made our name on; with core cast members, all new acts, and deliciously nerdy themes. Two night runs in a legitimate theater with bigger casts, more acts and all the snarky-corney jokes you've come to expect from EWB.

Epic Win the Musical! February 15th and 16 A tribute to Broadway musicals and theater geeks!

My Little Pony: Striptease is Magic May 17th and 18th An homage to magic, friendship and bronies!

The Slash Fic show! July 19th and 20th From Kirk/Spock to Harry/Snape all of your fantasies will come to LIFE!

A Tribute to Tim Burton October 18th and 19th We're going from Halloween Town to Mars and back again!

In August we will present The Serenity Spectacular A Big Damn Show featuring all the Firefly acts you loved last year and then some. There will be live music, there will be group numbers, there will be drinking and dancing and all manner of shenanigans. We aim to misbehave and no power in the verse can stop us.

Finally, we'll end the year with the Nerdlesque Fest Weekend!  Epic Win Burlesque will combine forces with performers from all over the country, nay THE WORLD, to turn New York City into the epicenter of glittery naked nerdery! There will be parties with cosplay go-go dancers, networking events for the nerdy and naked and a show of epic proportions with the geekiest, sexiest and most talented performers in burlesque today. Basically, ALL YOUR SATURDAYS ARE BELONG TO US!

Announcing the Coming Nerdlesque Fest

Epic Win Burlesque is super psyched to announce that we are planning the World's First ALL Nerdy Burlesque Festival!

In recent years, nerd-friendly burlesque has been growing in popularity, popping up in neo burlesque shows all over the country and showing droves of fans just how sexy pop culture can be. For three days and nights in December 2013, Epic Win Burlesque will combine forces with performers from all over the country, nay THE WORLD, to turn New York City into the epicenter of glittery naked nerdery!

There will be parties with cosplay go-go dancers, networking events with people just as weird and dorky as you and a show of epic proportions with the geekiest, sexiest and most talented performers in burlesque today.

So polish up your Buffy act, finish those R2D2 panties and sharpen your Wolverine claws. In the months to come we'll begin accepting applications and nailing down details so stay tuned and get psyched! The nerds are coming to NYC, and they're all getting naked!

My Birthday Month!

This thursday at Under St. Marks at 10pm is Bare.  I haven't talked about Bare too much on here.  I've definitely talked about it a lot on Definitely Not Dita Bare is always a show I'm really proud of because it pushes the limits of both burlesque and storytelling, but *especially* burlesque.  I feel like every single act I've done in this show has knocked it out of the park and it is so rare and precious to be able to say that.  This month the burlesquers are telling stories and the storytellers are doing burlesque.  I am doing both, because Peter likes me, and I asked real nice.  And because, even though Peter is doing burlesque to go with my story, I'm getting naked in *his* act.

On october 18th at 10pm at Nurse Bettie's I'll be performing one of my many Halloween acts at Spanking the Lower East Side!

Epic Win is producing a Big Damn Halloween party starting at 8pm on October 31st at R Bar.  The show will consist of BB Heart doing her freaky as hell Korean horror act, Cliff Hanger doing an American Psycho act, Apathy Angel's Silence of the Lambs act, Aurora Black (a SUPER talented ballet/burlesque dancer) doing a Zombie Giselle act, Nelson's psychic surgery act, me doing a grinder act as a cenobite and Schaffer the Darklord hosting while dressed in all his black metal finery.  It should be a great mix of funny and creepy.

It's also my 30th Birthday so we're going to have a crazy ass after party filled with candy flavored liquor, contortionist go-go dancers, black light body painters, costume contests and creepy/sexy poledancing.  I'm basically trying to marry Original Cyn craziness with Epic Win production value.  A Hellraiser grinder act would have gone down like gangbusters at OC but someone would have lost their eyebrows.  And my costume probably wouldn't have fit on the stage.  And R-Bar has, like, 5 poles.  So wear some sexy underwear and come ready to dance.
